Jenkins Ear House Rules

We don't have a lot of rules. Essentially, all we ask is that you act like reasonable adults, and you treat other members like they are also reasonable adults.
  1. Be aware that tone of voice, sarcasm, and other forms of expression that might be easily communicated and understood in person frequently don't come across as easily when conveyed by typing on a computer. Don't be quick to take offense, and be sensitive to the possibility that you may inadvertently give offense.
  2. Watch your language, but, again...reasonable adults, not quick to take offense, yadda yadda yadda. I'm not going to create a list of banned--i.e., censored--words, because I don't think anybody here will get too upset about the occasional language bomb dropped in the heat of passion. At the same time, profanity-riddled tirades are frowned upon.
  3. is a small group. Theoretically, we all know each other, or at least everybody here knows at least one other person, which means all of our characters have been vetted. I can't imagine any of our membership doing anything heinous enough to warrant banning or even lesser forms of administrative discipline, but it's always a theoretical possibility. If somebody has a problem with another member's behavior, back away slowly from the forum and let an administrator (right now, that's ME) know and we'll take it from there.
  4. Since we're talking about published works, there's a real possibility that questions of plagiarism and copyright violation, especially unintentional violations, may come up; I know that other fora I've participated in have been wary about long quotes and reviews printed verbatim and that kind of thing. In legal terms, I really don't think a group this small has anything to worry about, but do be aware of the ethics involved. If in doubt, it's always safe to post a link instead of a block quote.
  5. I'd prefer to leave off-topic discussions and that kind of thing to Facebook. Conversations wending the way they do, that may not be what happens, but it's something to keep in mind.
  6. There's a lot of stuff in the Profile form that I've left in because there are people besides me here who may care about things I don't care about. Be aware of the ongoing problem of internet privacy and data mining, and don't include anything in your profile you don't want the world to know about you. I decided to put the discussion board on Forumotion partly because they have a decent reputation when it comes to security, but don't be lulled into complacency.
